Sunday, April 27 - Lucerne to Venice

Today was primarily a travel day. We got up at 5:45 to get ready. Breakfast was at 7:00 and we had to catch a train at 8:21. The train is nice but it gets boring eventually. The views of the Alps have been beautiful. We saw lots of waterfalls. Arrived in Milan close to 1:00. We had to change trains there. This time we were on a Eurostar, which goes really fast. We used Troy's GPS to clock it and it averaged around 100 mph but got as high as 105. We made it to Venice around 3:30 and a lady was waiting for us to take us to our hotel. The boat ride to the hotel was about 20 minutes. (http://www.hotelpriuli.com/en/index.htm) After we checked in and rested a bit, we hit the streets. We walked all over the whole town it seems like. We were hungry because we had never had any lunch due to being on the train all day. Everything here is expensive but we found a place kind of like a Piccadilly style restaurant. I had a roasted rabbit with roasted potatoes and Troy had grilled cod with fries. Then we went on a search for gelato. It was so good. After Troy finished his, he said he wished he had some more. He did end up getting another one. He was so cute! Later we ducked into a little shop in some alley. I don't know what it was called but I got something that was layers of pastry with some chocolate cream layered in and chocolate icing. Troy had some kind of cream filled cake. We walked until 8:30.

15018 steps walked
5.962 miles
749 calories burned
2:25 hours walked

Do you mind sharing how much the hotel was? I looked up on their site and am having a hard time getting an actual price without signing up for emails and such. Also, would you recommend that for someone visiting Venice?
Me and my fiance are hoping to go to Spain for 5 days and Italy for 7, not until Sept. of 2011 but doing research now:) Thanks for any info!

Oh wow, let me look and see if I still have all my info saved from when we booked the trip. I think I do. I liked the place. Of course it was very old, but everything in Venice is, lol. I thought it was charming. It was off the beaten path of the popular tourist walks, but still very close to all the main attractions. I liked how you get the feeling you were part of the neighborhood when you were staying there. It was a little pricey, because we were splurging. I will go look for the price and come back and post it. I apologize that I am just now answering your question. I should have received an email saying someone had commented, but I didn't.

I can't find our paperwork. It's probably a document saved on my husband's computer. The room we had was considered a Double Junior Suite and it was called the Doge Gerolamo Priuli room. What I liked about it was it was on the corner of the palace. So you had a window that faced the canal in front and then in your bathroom you had a window that faced the canal on the side. That side canal was on the popular route for the gondoliers at night and so we were awakened a few times by their singing and would go to the windows to watch. That was fun. I was able to get a price for that room online and was quoted 325 euros (about $390 US) per night. This was for May 2011. I guess that is as far as they are booking at the moment. Now, the double canal view rooms were the lowest priced and they were 215 euros(about $258 US) per night. I compared the amenities between the two and they are the same. So I do not know why the junior suite is so much more expensive, unless it is considered a better view or has more antiques in it.

I do have a lower priced B&B I have researched I am considering if we ever get the chance to go back. I feel like since we made the big splurge once, next time I want to try and see how cheaply it can be done, lol. I found this info on TripAdvisor.com, which I warn you, if you haven't been to that site yet, it is like crack, lol! So much info there and you can't stop reading it, but lots of good "been there, done that" stuff.

This one is a B&B and only has three rooms, but it's practically right in St. Mark's square and has so many good reviews. This one runs about $120 US per night.
